Fall Kill Creative Works is a nonprofit community studio that provides high-quality educational programming and a rich studio environment in the Mid-Hudson Valley region of New York. Position Summary
We are seeking a collaborative and community-minded Artistic Director to join our small but growing team. This role shapes our semester class schedules, strengthens relationships with instructors, supports grant strategy, and helps coordinate events and communication. The ideal candidate is organized, warm, grounded, and excited about building a creative home for people in the Hudson Valley.
Key Responsibilities
Program Development & Scheduling
Develop seasonal class schedules and coordinate with instructors
Plan and support community events (e.g., Winter Open House, benefit parties)
Collaborate with the Studio Director on capacity, studio flow, and long-term program vision
Communications
Write and send the weekly newsletter
Work with the Marketing Coordinator to align messaging across platforms
Integrate Instagram + class promotion into the newsletter over time
Grant Support
Work with the Contract Grant Writer to shape narratives, supply program information, and track progress
Support grant reporting by providing program updates and data
Collaboration & Culture
Work with staff, instructors, and the studio community in a trauma-informed, inclusive manner
Help cultivate a welcoming environment aligned with our values of accessibility, generosity, and community care
Core Compentancies
Strategic planning and program development
Experience writing or shaping grant narratives
Collaborative, non-escalatory communication style
Trauma-informed or conflict-sensitive leadership
Ability to set clear boundaries with volunteers, board members, and community partners
Familiarity with nonprofit governance
Comfort working with artists, students, and community members
Ability to bring people in and build trust
Required Qualifications
Experience in arts programming, community arts, teaching, or nonprofit arts administration
Strong writing and organizational skills
Comfort working in a small, high-collaboration team
Commitment to equity, accessibility, and shared learning
Work Environment
Hybrid: work includes on-site meetings, instructor coordination, events, and occasional remote work for scheduling, writing, and planning.
Reports to the Board of Directors (collaborates closely with Studio Director).
