TEEN + FAMILY CLAY
Teen and Family Clay is back!
We are thrilled to bring back our free summer youth program, made possible by generous support from the City of Poughkeepsie!
Teen & Family Clay is a weekly drop-in series designed for young ones, families, and caregivers to explore clay together in a fun and supportive environment. Each week offers a new hands-on project led by local teaching artists, with opportunities to try pinching, coiling, slab building, wheel throwing, glazing, and more. These sessions are a great way to slow down, connect, and enjoy the creative process. After each workshop, we’ll have a free meal from a local Poughkeepsie restaurant and celebrate what we’ve made together!

HANDBUILDING CLASS
THIS CLASS IS PART OF AN 8 WEEK SERIES
Handbuilding is an ancient technique used to create pots and sculptures without a potter's wheel. You can use these skills to create a variety of objects, both utilitarian and sculptural. You will leave this class with an understanding of pinched, coil, and slab construction; how to use equipment such as a slab roller and extruder; and surface treatments like creating texture in clay, with a focus on vessels. This class is open to beginners and advanced students.

Exploring Underglazes is a surface focused class that will explore all the possibilities working with underglazes. This course will work with velvet underglazes, pencils, and chalks and teach painting and layering techniques, washes, methods of combining underglazes with studio glazes, and underglaze transfers.

BERRY BASKETS WORKSHOP
Jes Clark of Willow Vale Farm will lead this one day workshop making a single handled round basket, perfect for collecting berries or garden treasures. Utilizing willow grown on Jes’ farm you will learn weaving techniques from the base up. This class is open to all participants, no experience required!

HANDBUILDING CLASS
THIS CLASS IS PART OF AN 8 WEEK SERIES
Handbuilding is an ancient technique used to create pots and sculptures without a potter's wheel. You can use these skills to create a variety of objects, both utilitarian and sculptural. In this workshop caregivers and children will explore handbuilding techniques to build and sculpt a house perfect for a fairy or gnome. Participants will use underglaze to add decorations to their fairy and gnome homes. All fired work will be available for pick up approximately two weeks after your class.

An individual pour over is a must-have for a coffee lover! In this three hour workshop students will design and build their Coffee Pour Over and a matching mug. All participants will create one mug and a pour over. Participants will select a studio glaze and fired work will be available for pick up approximately two weeks after your class.

HAND QUILTING WORKSHOP
In this workshop students will learn the handquilting technique of paper piecing. Pia will guide students through preparing, assembling, and handsewing their paper hex pieces and squares. Participants are welcome to bring their own cotton fabric, or choose from the assortment of vintage fabrics we have on hand. Participants will leave with a firm understanding of techniques and several completed squares, a great start to a larger project.

Friday Happy Hour Wheel Night is a stand alone workshop where participants can get their hands dirty and try something new! In this class we will focus on wheel throwing….

Family Clay: Fairies and Garden Gnomes is a class for caregivers and children and teens of all ages! Our instructors will guide children through building, sculpting, and decorating the fairies, gnomes, and all the accessories they need for their woodland homes!
