  • ABOUT THE ARTIST
Tiffany Saw is a Brooklyn based ceramic artist focused on making functional pieces inspired by traditional Chinese and Myanmar pottery. Her work is a hybrid of both American and Chinese throwing techniques finished with traditional carving she learned in Jingdezhen. She spends hours hand-carving each of her pieces and works to create fine and delicate detail in the flora and fauna that cover her pots.

  • LECTURE
Tiffany will discuss her artistic journey from studying shadow style carving during her Jingdezhen residency to adjusting and applying these techniques within her own studio practice. She'll talk about the inspiration for her work, and how she plans each piece using particular glazing and staining techniques to enhance her carved designs.

  • DEMONSTRATION
Tiffany will be doing a carving demonstration on a porcelain pot. She will go through the sketching, background shaving, layering and detail etching process, as well as the carving tools needed and the glazing style which is typical for this type of decoration.
